Toronto, March 18, 2022 – Thentia is pleased to announce the promotion of Natasha Giuffre to the position of Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel. An experienced lawyer with deep expertise in professional regulation, Giuffre will lead the corporate legal affairs department as part of Thentia’s leadership team.
“Natasha’s firsthand knowledge of regulatory processes and thorough understanding of how technology and regulation intersect have been indispensable since she first joined the Thentia team,” says Julian Cardarelli, CEO of Thentia. “I am certain that she will continue to have a significant impact in her new role as she shapes Thentia’s legal strategy and uses her legal acumen to help clients and colleagues navigate the complex nuances of regulation.”
As CLO and General Counsel, Giuffre will be responsible for developing Thentia’s corporate legal strategy, developing and leading internal legal audit and corporate compliance programs, and overseeing the delivery of legal services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies, and priorities.
“This role allows me to make decisions that will have a substantial influence on the company, while permitting me to stretch my skills into new areas of law,” says Giuffre. “I’m humbled by the responsibility and opportunity, and I’m looking forward to supporting my colleagues and collaborating with them in their daily endeavors as Thentia continues to grow.”
Giuffre joined Thentia in August 2021 as Principal Advisor, Legal & Regulatory Affairs, a role in which she provided both internal and external leadership and consultation on best practices and process design relating to the development of the company’s leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for regulators, Thentia Cloud. She also acted as a champion for regulatory excellence, and in September 2021 represented Thentia as a speaker at the CLEAR (Council on Licensure, Enforcement & Regulation) Annual Educational Conference, where she shared her professional insights on disciplinary investigations with more than 600 members of the regulatory community from across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Prior to joining Thentia, Giuffre worked as a Discipline Counsel at Ontario’s regulatory body for lawyers, the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), where she represented the organization in disciplinary hearings and made recommendations for policy changes related to the improvement of the regulatory process. “My experience at LSO highlighted for me the daily challenges that regulators face,” explains Giuffre. “When I joined the Thentia team, this experience helped me to act as a translator between tech and regulation in my position as Principal Advisor. As CLO and General Counsel, I am now able to approach high-level regulatory challenges with greater preparedness from my experiences working for and with regulators.”
Giuffre earned her JD from the University of Toronto and a Master of Laws from York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School. Following her call to the bar, she worked as a criminal defence lawyer at Canada’s largest criminal defence firm and then as a sole practitioner.
